The chief aim of the course is to discuss the idea and reality of Jewish nationalism (Zionism). Topics to be treated include the development of Jewish Secularism, Jewish colonization and Statehood from 1882 to 1948 (the establishment of the State of Israel) and 1948 to the present. The course will also discuss the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the religious tensions revolving around the land-nation- sovereignty dilemma.
