How do secular Israeli Jews maintain a Jewish worldview without believing in God or the revelation at Sinai? What kind of Jewishness do they generate? Reading A. D. Gordon, Ehad HaAm, Simon Dubnow, Zeev Jabotinski, Ber Borochov, and others, we will pay close attention to the dilemmas and the solutions their works reveal. We will ask whether land, nation, or sovereignty are indeed adequate and sufficient substitutes to religious revelation, Jewish identity and commitment.
