Certificate in Jewish Studies

The certificate program is open to all undergraduate students on the Bloomington campus and is designed for students who wish to gain a broad-based knowledge of Jewish Studies. More significant than the Jewish Studies minor, the certificate is treated as an addition to a degree by the University.

Required Courses

The certificate requires at least 24 credit hours, including the requirement below:

  • JSTU J-251/HIST-H 251
  • JSTU-J 252/HIST-H 252
  • 18 additional credit hours with a minimum of 3 courses (9 cr.) at the 300-400 level

At least 9 credit hours must be completed in courses taken through the IUB campus or an IU-administered or IU co-sponsored Overseas Study Program.

All course work must be completed with a grade of C– or higher. A GPA of at least 2.000 for all courses taken in the certificate - including those where a grade lower than C- is earned - is required.

This program of study cannot be combined with the following:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies
  • Minor in Jewish Studies

Students wishing to participate in the certificate program must register with the advisor in Jewish Studies. Zoom appointments with Dr. Carolyn Lipson-Walker may be arranged by emailing clipsonw@indiana.edu.
