What the Jewish Studies Program Offers Students

Generous Jewish Studies Scholarships: High school students can apply for up to $60,000, 4-year scholarships in Jewish Studies. More »

And Scholarships for Continuing Jewish Studies students each year:  Each spring, current Jewish Studies first year students, sophomores, and juniors can apply for Jewish Studies scholarships for the coming year. Academically outstanding students and/or students with financial need were awarded $140,000 in scholarships for the current academic year. More »

One-of-a-Kind Jewish Sacred Music Curriculum prepares IU students for cantorial school with courses in Jewish Studies and the famed Jacobs School of Music. “Having almost finished my second year of cantorial school, I am continually using what I learned at IU in my studies and clergy life.” Cantor/Rabbi Lily Tash; "A unique opportunity that can only be found at IU and the ideal route to cantorial school. Jewish Studies Internships: Each year, the JSP awards an administrative internship. Also, all students can enroll in a course and earn credit for an internship related to Jewish Studies. More »

Regular Student-Faculty Gatherings: Fall dessert, free one-on-one lunches/dinners with the faculty, dinners in faculty members’ homes, spring gala dinner. More »

Conference Funding: Funding of up to $500 available to defray the costs associated with conferences and professional development related to Jewish Studies. (No where else but IU JSP!) More »

Study Abroad in Israel: Spend the year or a semester during your junior year at Hebrew University through IU Overseas Study or transfer credit back from Ben-Gurion University, Haifa University, or Tel Aviv University. Generous scholarships available. More »

Career Guidance/Regular Emails:  We mentor our students for careers related to Jewish Studies with an Alumni contact list on demand; regular e-mails about jobs/internships, summer opportunities, scholarships, graduate programs, and programs in Israel.

Regular Visits by Distinguished Lecturers: In the past, the JSP has brought to the Bloomington campus such notable visitors as Isaac Bashevis Singer, Deborah Lipstadt, Jan Gross, Dennis Ross, Elie Wiesel, Emil Fackenheim, Cynthia Ozick,Daniel Libeskind, Yigael Yadin, and Primo Levi. We also have an artist/s-in-residence each year. We welcome noted Jewish writers, filmmakers, playwrights, artists, and musicians. More »
