Borns Jewish Studies Program

ONE OF THE LARGEST, OLDEST, AND MOST COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMS OF ITS KIND, THE BORNS JEWISH STUDIES PROGRAM AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY a premier hub for Jewish Studies. The Program is committed to fostering leadership skills, civic responsibility, and academic achievement through rigorous interdisciplinary study of Jews and Judaism. Our distinguished faculty, talented students, outstanding staff, almost 1,000 accomplished alumni, and supportive community, work together to ensure the best possible experience for our students. The interaction of our twenty-one faculty members working in musicology, history, biblical study, Yiddish and Hebrew language and linguistics, political science, comparative literature, the history of art, the study of ancient Jewry and more, makes for an enormously enriching and stimulating atmosphere. The faculty in this world-leading Jewish Studies program establishes close and enduring connections with its students.

The Borns JSP offers an intimate learning environment nestled within a major research university. Our diverse student body is able to take advantage of the manifold resources IU offers in terms of global and international studies, languages, culture and the arts, academic excellence, technology, athletics, and campus life while benefitting from the type of personal attention normally associated with small liberal arts colleges. Students in our undergraduate major (with the opportunity to pursue a Jewish sacred music curriculum), certificate (8 courses), Jewish Studies minor (5 courses), Hebrew minor, M.A., and Ph.D. minor programs are eligible for generous scholarships and fellowships (including incoming multi-year freshmen scholarships, scholarships for continuing undergraduates, fellowships for both the M.A. and Ph.D). Through an array of extracurricular and academic activities, sponsored by the program, the Jewish Studies Student Association and the Jewish Studies Graduate Student Association, this world-leading Jewish Studies program creates a close-knit community.
